Reach - A Memorial Day Tribute

The year has been harsh and trying so far. It has tested the limits of our mental endurance, and it has provoked us with forced isolation.

No one asked for this much solitude. No one expected death to surround us.
People drank a lot, and called mental health hotlines.
They struggled with an unyielding sense of pending doom and fear of the unknown.

Still, we stand.
We hope. We believe. We reach.

The nature of the human spirit is to rise. We look around, and in the midst of hopelessness and panic, we see the ones who step up. They move confidently and unflinchingly. As chaos reigns, they remain focused on the mission at hand. The urgent delivery will be made, an imperative will be met, one life, or many, will be saved, or made better.

The nature of warriors is to defend. When called to fight, they will. They go to protect those who cannot protect themselves or those they love. There will be no backing down or surrender.
They have already counted the cost.  They look into the face of death and still go.
Death is inevitable- it's just a matter of when.

They risk death because they believe life is worth it.

Today, we live, and we breathe.
Let's take a moment to reflect on the simplicity and value of both.
Breathe deeply, for those who never will again.
We still have the opportunity to apologize, forgive, right the wrongs, and love.
We can inspire and touch and heal.

Death comes for all, but some meet it sooner than others.
Take the time that is left today to create a memory. Make a call. Write a letter. Send a text. Give a hug, and a kiss. Listen attentively.  Say thank you. Tomorrow is never promised.

Take the time today to remember those who sacrificed the opportunity to make memories, and take the time to reflect on those they left with nothing else.

Join me in taking this moment to honor the soldiers who gave their lives to to give us ours.
We still live in the land of the free because of the brave.
Never take it for granted.
Never forget.
Special acknowledgement to the brothers of 3rd Special Forces Group - some gave all. Never forget.
